It is important for clients to understand the terminology and functions of home security systems. It is our duty as security professionals to educate our clients on these components and their functions. Also, to advice the client on the best system for their house and needs. Today the house alarm is much more than just an alarm system but let start with the basics the components and their functions.
The Keypad -This is like your pc keyboard also known as your control panel, the entire system is connected to the keypad. The alarm system can be armed and disarmed from this panel.
Window and Door Sensors– These sensors will alarm you if any of the doors or windows are still open when activating the alarm with a beeping sound
Motion Sensors– These sensors will pick up any movement inside any of the zones -living areas. The sensitivity can be set to prevent false alarms for example if the homeowners has pets like cats that sleep inside the house. Internal sensors for indoor use and external sensors that is water resistant for outside use.
Siren – The home security appliance will be connected to the siren once a person breaches the system it will make a very loud annoying sound that will notify the residents and neighbours that someone might be in the house. Another purpose is to scare of the burglars
Glass Breaks– These sensors are tuned in to the sound of breaking glass. One sensor can pick up all the windows in one room if there is no doors or walls blocking the sensors. These sensors perform excellent in large rooms even on glass sliding doors.
Alarm Monitoring Services– I highly recommend that homeowners also use the services of a local based security company that are certified with a solid security footprint in the area. Tip do not let any dodgy sales reps misleads you to sign a long-term agreement. If they are certain of the quality of their services, they will be willing to take on a month to month contract. Second tip have a look at the visibility of response vehicles and armed response boards in the area. This will give you a good idea if the company will be a good fit. The company of your choice will install a radio transmitter that will link the alarm to their 24hour control room that will monitor the system.
Cell phone App Monitoring– The is very useful, if your system is compatible then you can control your alarm system from your smartphone, and it can notify you with a message if your alarm goes off.
Some modern alarm systems can also be used and linked to your smartphone to monitor your home and the home systems. Example it can open your garage from your cell phone or switch lights on and off if you are on holiday. Very convenient and helpful. Also, cameras can be linked to some alarm systems that can send you a short video clip recording of the alarm zone triggered.
So, my personal advice rather gets professional advice and get the system that works best for your specific needs.
